won tata crucible campus jaipur 2010...

Atleast something is going good in life.
i along with ankit soni on 5th march won much awaited tata crucible jaipur edition.
we missed the last year's crucible in jaipur and tht regret finally ended on march 5.
around 125 teams(according to pickbrain) participated for that battle. out of which 4 teams made directly to the final according to their prelims score.
we topped the prelims with score of 18 out of 20.i must admit prelims was rather easy. other teams tht made directly to the final were bits pilani, mnit and gyanvihar university. wild card round was completely dominated by bits pilani. out of 6 teams from wild card round there were 4 teams from bits pilani, two of them eventually made it to final round through wild card.
we started fairly well and maintained the lead throughout and won comfortably. i could have score more on buzzer, but one bits pilani team was too aggressive on buzzer(i don't knw why).they were pressing the buzzer like hell and earned themselves few negatives.
in the end the final scores were:

bits pilani(team 2) - 18
bits pilani(team 3) - 16
mnit jaipur - 6

National finals will be at mumbai. now i am a bit nervous about the national final.
some quizzing biggies like imt ghaziabad, iim indore, iim c(last year's national winner) , iim l, college of engineering guindy has already qualified from their respective region. we're going to represent rajasthan. national final would be a tough nut to crack . finger crossed!!!

quiz review : biz quiz @ jim jaipur

Gathering of 70 odd teams specially when host college is not participating, for a quiz in jaipur city( which is not tht quizzically inclined) is no less than a wonder.
yes, talking about the my first quiz of the year and what a lovely quiz to start a year. the quiz was absolute delight for the quizzers who likes those quizzes after which they can walk away home with some new knowledge,which rarely happens in jaipur. the main attraction for the event was a professional quizmaster(atleast for me) ,yes again new culture in campus quizzing in jaipur where one of the organizers always plays the role of quizmaster. the quizmaster for the quiz was saurabh agarwal. He fly down to jaipur from mumbai specially for the quiz and tht proved to be a lot of worth. he executed the quiz brilliantly and ofcourse content was the real king of the whole quiz.

with six long rounds, full of trivias from every genre, quizmaster ensured to minimize the luck factor. teams were given advantages according to their prelims score....although we(urs truly n sahil jain) were 3rd in prelims but i liked the concept of giving advantage of prelims score in final round. in my view this ensures the "survival of sharpest". kudos to saurabh agarwal for brilliant content.

final rounds were very good , lots of trivias, work-outable questions and some good dry question.

but i personally didn't like the last rnd because each of the six teams had 100 pts to score individually in last round for the 10 questions which were,in my view, plane memory based question in contrast to the other question in other 5 rounds where merely 60 pts were common to score for all 6 teams on stage.

forgot to mention event co-ordinator pravin mishra who personally made sure tht quiz goes well with out any technical glitches and a crowd-puller one too.he desreves full accolades for a perfect host.

six teams tht made it to the finals were mnit, arya, jecrc , iiim and two others team frm a mngmt college(forgot their names).

in the end team from arya institute(urs truly n sahil jain) won the quiz and team from mnit (kr. mayur n his frnd) were the runner up. all in all a great quizzing affair...........

Tata crucible corporates 2009: jaipur round finals

an hour before i was sitting on the edge of my chair in maharana pratap auditorium watching the battle of tata crucible corporates jaipur round.although i missed the prelims but saw finals(and luckilly got an audience prize).
six teams who made it to the finals were Godrej,henkel, make my trip.com,icici , reliance retail and sbi. godrej won with considerable ease thanx to some sitters in the last round.SBI was the runner-up.

09/05/09 ...the busy day

Although it's too late but i would like to report 09/05/09 day here b'coz somehow there are few memories with this day.
in morning we decided to march to skit. since there was a general quiz. i along with ankit soni and jha naman reached their as early as 09.30 am. this time also i had again a clumsy quiz. prelims was bit too odd u can say kind of civil examination paper. there were question right from core history, core art and there were no question from business and almost negligible from entertainment . But anyway we made some calculated flukes and finally got a birth in top 4 teams those qualified for the finals. other teams were mnit,skit and jecrc. this quiz was somehow special. this quiz was the last quiz for that mnit team(aviral, abhishek and anuraag) coz they are done with their engineering. great guys with prodigious knowledge. it's always a pleasure to compete against them.really i am going to remember them for long time.
quiz final consist of four rounds with two odd rounds. a rajasthan round and a antakshari round(l0l).yeah thts true there was a antakshari round(we learned that by the guys of mnit,they were the winner of last year's quiz)
quizmaster started the quiz with rajasthan round. round was really a disaster for us . we scored only 5 points with a very good answer from jha naman(the height of mt. gurushikhar). next round was buzzer round. first two questions picked up very early by team mnit. i would say very very fast. coz we also knew those question.but was too late to get them. but third one i pressed the buzzer very early. fortunately we got the points. we were really competing against them so we forgot ab other teams . team skit that was ahead of us after first we didn't care of them much.
so without listening the complete we went for 4th question it was my fault it was about merger of
sun microsystem and oracle, so without giving a complete listening i pressed the buzzer. i thought they would ask trivia kind of question or a question relating to these companies or officials. but i had never imagined that they could ask question on per share bidding by oracle
hahaha.........after listening the complete question each finalist was laughing at us.
nevermind. at the end of this round we were again at zero.then there was a round antakhshari round.....lol.......from this round we started laughing and enjoying the quiz rather than trying to winning...............eventually finished third. but anyways the quiz went to deserving mnit team.
a sweet farewell for them. wishing a great life for them............

farewell hmm......after the quiz i was little upset. all efforts were in vain.i was pretty tired but i decided to go to the farewell which we are organinging for our college seniors(to be honest ..400rs bhi to wasoolne the). the party was at sunrise resort(my college owns tht) . sounds intresting naa resort in just 400 rs.........hahahaha(well i guess resort is just their another mean of coverting their black money into white, i hav learned tht later from my friends). believe me there was nothing like resort other then a swimming pool for childrens. well everybody was expecting atleast a decent food from them but here comes my college. how dare u to expect a better food from them. don't you know they are profit making machines,seeking profit in whatever happens in college.well apart from them few our fellow students had really worked hard to make this event unforgetable for our seniors.
anyway i think farewell is a greatmoment for one who is just passing out, leaving the college with all sweet and bad memories, ur dear friends and everything. it isn't matter how much u cricize ur college or u hate it at ur will but this is for sure you gonna miss these four years...................
wishing all the senior a happy and prosperous future for them.........

the quizing voyage.......

in last 3 days we(me n ankit) have attended two quizes. 1st one is general quiz at jecrc renaissance'09 and other one is bquiz at gyanvihar university management fest '09.

so i begin with quiz @jecrc.the prelims was on 19th march. there were almost 20-30 teams present for the prelims of generel quiz.we are expecting a good lavel from the organizers of tht quiz. b'coz i knew the event manager of that quiz ayush personally. he is a quite sensible person. but as soon as we went through the prelim's paper tht was a disappointing one for me. there are hardly a questions on business and politics. also i don't know why they are quite fascinated with literature questions. around 6-7 question s were directly or indirectly based on the literature in the prelims
and i don't know how many in the final of the event (even the whole 3 tie breaker questions for the second place belongs to only literature).but anyhow we managed to book a ticket for finals(initially there were semifinal also but later it was scrapped). in finals there were five teams.
first team was team from mnit(probably the best quizzing team in jaipur....we are the poor rivals of them nearly every quiz since feb. lol) two teams from jecrc and a one team from some college of gurgaon.
the final was so messed up with everything tht i hav'nt seen any quiz of tht kind. i mean there were almost 8-10 guys who were operating the whole operations but still everything was poorly managed(n tht reminds me the general quiz at mnit in this feb. where only two persons aviral and anuraag ,the guys of mnit team, managed the whole final quite remarkably). anyway we didn't get a good start since questions in the first round was out of the world for both of us.mostly literature n what kind of lit. questions was tht even we didn't heard the name of books lol. we were at big zero after the complition of two rounds. as usually team mnit has cracked these rounds and they were at 80-90 after these rounds(i was scoring each n every question). n more surprisingly a team from jecrc has done prodigious job. they had given a few very good answers. they were at fifty or 40.
(i would like to remind u guys here not a single question based on business or entertainment was asked till yet). so we were quite disappointed with the level of quiz. then the final round came(the pic connecting round). since we are really good at connections. so we are fully dependent on this round. and also this round gone according to our expectation. we had accelered our score from 20 to 60. n we got the tie situation according to our scoring with jecrc team but the official scorer has diff. scores with jecrc team on 2nd pos. and we are on 3rd. then i had dispute with the organizer on the scores and after lil hardwork finally i got succed to convince them the score was 60-60.but unfortunate kept following us in tiebreaker too. and we lost to them on a litereatue question once again. i m not going to forget this quiz for long time.

the second quiz was biz quiz @gyan vihar university in their management fest. we got selected in the final round along with amity jaipur,jaipuria,mahrshi arvind and IIIM teams. final was very well structured. i should say one of the most structured quiz i have faced . i would rate this quiz just after the general quiz @mnit .since it was bquiz so me n ankit was expecting a better performance in the final and that went accordingly.after two rounds we were leading with IIIM with 120 points . then in third round they took a lead of 25 points . but in final round as we have done in all quizes(we r really good in final round) we won the quiz with clear lead of around 40 points. IIIM was the runner-up.they were really very good. a little fortune was also with us(we lost few quizes just b'coz of luck factor).
But if there were a passing in all rounds then we would surely win by huge gap. we had done really a good job.overall quiz was really good so was the organizer.
